Landing Page Best Practices: How to Turn Visitors into Leads

By Elite Mercato TeamPublished October 25, 20263 min read

A landing page is a single page built for one purpose, such as collecting enquiries, booking calls or promoting an offer. Unlike a home page, it does not try to say everything. When it is done well, it turns far more of your ad and email traffic into leads. Here are the practices that make the biggest difference.

Give the page one goal

Decide the single action you want visitors to take: fill in a form, book a call or buy. Remove anything that distracts from it, including the full site menu where possible. Every section of the page should support that one goal.

Write a clear headline

Visitors decide in seconds whether to stay. Your headline should say what you offer and why it matters to them, in plain words. If people arrive from an ad, the headline should match the ad's promise, so they know they are in the right place.

Focus on benefits

Explain what the customer gets, not just what you do. Short sections, bullet points and simple language work better than long paragraphs. Answer the questions people ask before buying: what is included, how long it takes, what it costs and what happens next.

Show proof

Trust is often the deciding factor. Add real reviews, testimonials with names, client logos, case studies or numbers you can back up. Even one or two strong testimonials near the call to action can lift results.

Make the call to action obvious

Use a button that stands out, with clear text such as "Get my free quote" rather than "Submit". Place it near the top of the page and repeat it further down for people who scroll.

Keep forms short

Every extra field reduces the number of people who finish the form. Ask only for what you need to follow up, often just a name, email and a short message. Tell people what happens after they submit and how quickly you reply.

Make it fast and mobile-friendly

Many landing page visitors come from social media ads on their phones. The page should load quickly, read easily on a small screen and have buttons that are easy to tap. Our guide on making your website load faster covers the main fixes.

Track and test

Set up tracking so you know how many visitors become leads, and from which ads. Then test one change at a time, such as a new headline or a shorter form, and keep what works. Small improvements add up over time.

A simple landing page structure

  1. Headline and short supporting line, with the main call to action.
  2. The problem your customer has, in their words.
  3. Your solution and its main benefits.
  4. Proof: reviews, results or examples.
  5. How it works, in three or four simple steps.
  6. Frequently asked questions.
  7. Final call to action with the form.
